Looking at the Hall of Fame chances of Nikola Jokic.
The NBA Hall of Fame ceremony took place this past weekend with nine inductees taking their place in the Hall.
North American Committee inductees included Joey Crawford [Referee], Mark Few [Coach], Doc Rivers [Coach], and Amar’e Stoudemire [Player].
The Women’s Committee inductees included the 1996 United States Women’s National Team, Elena Delle Donne [Player], Chamique Holdsclaw [Player], and Candace Parker [Player]
Finally, the Contributors Committee inductee was Mike D’Antoni.
For players, they need to be retired for three seasons before they are eligible to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Every year when the Hall of Fame ceremony rolls around, fans question who from the current crop will end up in the Hall.
For the Nuggets, one player is a lock.
Nikola Jokic Is Going To The Hall
If Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic retired tomorrow, he would be inducted into the Hall of Fame in three years.
There is nothing else he needs to do to earn his spot.
Basketball Reference's Hall of Fame probability formula has Jokic making the HOF at 99%, which is still too low. He's a 100% lock to make it, no questions asked.
He's a three-time MVP and has finished runner-up to the MVP in three seasons as well. He won an NBA Championship and a Finals MVP in 2023. He's an eight-time All-NBA player. He averaged a triple-double in two seasons and will lead the league in career triple-doubles when he retires, seeing as he trails Russell Westbrook by just 11, and Westbrook just retired.
The Strongest Current Resume?
Basketball Reference has LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and James Harden at 100% in their probability formula.
All four are getting in, but there is an argument that Jokic has an even better case than Durant and Harden.
He has more MVPs than Durant and more MVPs and championships than Harden. His individual numbers aren't as strong, but he still has five or six years playing at a high level while Harden and Durant are in the twilight of their careers.
Even without the indivual numbers, his trophy case speaks for itself.
Any Other Denver Hall of Famers?
Jamal Murray has the next best chance, but he would need to do a lot of work in the next ten years to get there. He'll undoubtedly go down as one of the best players to ever wear a Nuggets jersey, but he is unlikely to make the Hall of Fame.
