A former Indiana Pacers guard who was a prize free agency signing has reportedly signed with the New York Knicks.
The Indiana Pacers do not have a long history with veteran guard Bruce Brown. However, when he signed a two-year, $45 million contract with the team in free agency, there was hope that he could become a big part of the future.
Brown's future with the franchise quickly changed. He played just half of a season with the Pacers before being the main contract shipped to the Toronto Raptors in the Pascal Siakam trade.
During the 2023-24 season, Brown played in and started 33 games for Indiana. He posted averages of 12.1 points per game to go along with 4.7 rebounds, three assists, and 1.1 steals, while shooting 47.5 percent from the floor and 32.7 percent from three-point range.
Since playing for the Pacers, Brown has had stints with the Raptors, New Orleans Pelicans, and Denver Nuggets. He played for the Nuggets last season and appeared in 82 games. Brown averaged 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and a steal per game in Denver.
With that being said, Brown has now officially found himself a new home for training camp.
According to a report from ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, Brown has signed with the New York Knicks on a training camp deal.
Of course, the Pacers and Knicks have a big-time rivalry heading into the 2026-27 season. Prior to last season, Indiana had eliminated New York from the playoffs in two straight years.
While Indiana struggled last year due to Tyrese Haliburton's absence following an Achilles tear, the Knicks went on to win the NBA Finals. The rivalry is expected to pick up this season with Haliburton back on the court.
Adding Brown is a solid move for New York. During his time with the Pacers, Brown was a solid offensive player, but hung his hat on defense. He'll be a nice depth addition for the Knicks, assuming he plays well enough to make the final roster.
Throughout his entire eight-year NBA career, Brown has played in 539 games and made 272 starts. He holds career averages of 8.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 0.9 steals per game. Brown has shot 47.6 percent from the floor and 34.4 percent from beyond the arc.
It will be interesting to see what Brown's training camp deal turns into with New York. Should he make the roster, the Pacers will see a familiar face in their rivalry games against the Knicks this season.
