A former Indiana Pacers guard has found a new opportunity with a Western Conference contender.
The Indiana Pacers drafted Taelon Peter in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft at No. 54 overall. He had a chance to play throughout the year, as the Pacers struggled and finished with a 19-63 record.
Just one year removed from an NBA Finals run that saw Indiana take the Oklahoma City Thunder to Game 7, the team was one of the worst in the league in 2025-26.
Peter showed some flashes of potential throughout his rookie season with the Pacers. He appeared in 38 games and averaged 4.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game, while shooting 38 percent from the floor and 32.8 percent from the three-point line.
At the end of the day, those numbers and his play during Summer League this year wasn't enough to keep his roster spot in Indiana.
Following Summer League action, the Pacers chose to release Peter. With multiple players fighting for the three two-way spots in Indiana, Peter simply lost the competition.
It didn't take long for the 24-year-old guard to find a new home.
According to a report from HoopsHype NBA insider Michael Scotto, Peter has agreed to sign with the San Antonio Spurs. Of course, the Spurs were in the NBA Finals last season before losing to the New York Knicks.
"The San Antonio Spurs and Taelon Peter have agreed to a deal, league sources told @hoopshype," Scotto reported on X.
"Peter will go to training camp with the Spurs after averaging 4.5 points in 38 games played for the Indiana Pacers last season. Peter was the 54th overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft.
Known mostly for his three-point shooting ability, Peter will look to latch on with the Spurs. If he can find his shot consistently from behind the arc, he'll have a chance to earn a spot.
During his final college season at Liberty, Peter played in 35 games and started in just two of them. He averaged 13.7 points, four rebounds, and an assists, while shooting 57.8 percent from the floor and knocking down 45.3 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.
Only time will tell what the future has in store for Peter. Things didn't work out for him with the Pacers, but he'll have another chance to prove he belongs in San Antonio.
