This NBA trade idea sends four Los Angeles Lakers players to the Indiana Pacers.

Heavy Sports has proposed a trade idea between the Los Angeles Lakers and Indiana Pacers.

The proposed trade has the Pacers sending Obi Toppin, Aaron Nesmith and Jay Huff to the Lakers for Jarred Vanderbilt, Jaden Hardy, Jake LaRavia and Dalton Knecht.

"If the Pacers have proven anything, it’s their ability to retrofit the team with players being stars in their roles," Sai Mohan of Heavy Sports wrote. "Vets like Vanderbilt and LaRavia may thrive in that system that encourages players to push the pace rather than getting into half-court sets.  Hardy, who showed flashes of an excellent backup guard in Dallas, could similarly thrive in a role behind Tyrese Haliburton, Andrew Nembhard and T.J. McConnell. As for Knecht, the prospective sharpshooter could use a change of scenery after a stagnant first two seasons with the Lakers, where he has struggled to find playing time.

"From a financial sense, the aforementioned Lakers trade would see the Pacers land three expiring salaries and Vanderbilt, who has a player option next year. As such, it’s not a very risky proposition."

Vanderbilt will make $12,428,571 next season, Hardy will make $6 million, LaRavia will make $6 million in the final year of his contract and Knecht will make $4,201,080.

The Pacers will be a playoff team again next season with Tyrese Haliburton back in the fold. Haliburton missed last season recovering from the Achilles tendon tear he suffered in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Indiana will be led by Haliburton, Pascal Siakam and Ivica Zubac in 2026-27.

Without their best player this past season, the Pacers won only 19 games, but Haliburton's dad -- John -- expects his son's team to be "right at the top" again next season.

"I expect them right at the top," John told Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson. "I'm not going to lie to you. If you know basketball and you've been paying attention, you know that all of our rookies and second-year players got a chance to really go out there and grow through this run. They got a chance to experience the game at the highest level, slow it down, and understand exactly what it takes to win.

"Now, by the time Tyrese gets back on the floor, these young guys have already been through the fire. So you tell me—what is going to stop them from going to the top? New York won the championship this year, but they won it because Indiana wasn't fully standing in their way at the very end. Next year, with Tyrese back, Indiana will be standing right there."

The odds of the Lakers and Pacers making this proposed trade are very, very low.

However, nothing can be ruled out in today's NBA anymore after the Lakers got Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Celtics traded Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers.
