The Indiana Pacers are in pursuit of a title in the 2026-27 season, led by star guard Tyrese Haliburton. Could NBA legend LeBron James surprisingly join the Pacers for a championship run?
The Indiana Pacers are looking to get back into contention in the 2026-27 season after a gap year in 2025-26 with Tyrese Haliburton out.
Haliburton led the Pacers to Game 7 of the NBA Finals in 2025 before going down with a torn Achilles tendon.
He played at a high level throughout the season prior, averaging 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 9.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, shooting 47.3 percent from the field and 38.8 percent from three.
The star point guard will appear on an episode of Mind the Game hosted by LeBron James and Steve Nash at Fanatics Fest later this week. James is a free agent and has decided to leave the Los Angeles Lakers for a new team.
He is reportedly down to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, and Minnesota Timberwolves and could announce his decision as soon as this week.
However, NBA writer Alex Golden suggests that the Pacers could be a dark horse to land James as Haliburton appears on his podcast this week. James and Haliburton were teammates on Team USA's 2024 team that won the Gold Medal.

At 41 years old, James played well for the Lakers, averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, shooting 51.5 percent from the floor and 31.7 percent from behind the arc.
James would fit exceptionally well in Indiana's fastbreak offensive system as he is still elite at getting to the rim and finishing while also being one of the best playmakers in league history.
He would have a legitimate shot at winning a fifth ring in the 2026-27 season if he joins Haliburton and the Pacers, as they already have a ton of depth in their rotation.
While it hasn't been mentioned as a landing spot for James, it could be a great decision for him to finish out his career in Indiana, as he would fit seamlessly into the offense and have a chance to win a championship.
