The Indiana Pacers have been linked to a potential surprising addition at the point guard position.

Entering the 2026 NBA offseason, the Indiana Pacers are looking to fill out their roster with more talent in an effort to win a championship next season.

On paper, the team is fairly loaded. The starting lineup is good and the bench unit has quite a bit of talent as well. There are a couple of areas the Pacers could look to upgrade.

More than likely, the upgrades that Kevin Pritchard and the front office make will be bench upgrades. There is a need for more scoring off of the bench. Adding another quality wing could be an option.

That being said, a suggestion has been made that would see Indiana pursue an intriguing option at point guard. While the Pacers seem set at the point guard position with Tyrese Haliburton, T.J. McConnell, Andrew Nembhard, Kam Jones, and Quenton Jackson, there were stretches last season where injuries had them short-handed.

Keeping that in mind, Sports Illustrated's Alex Golden has suggested veteran point guard Mike Conley as a possible option.

"At 38 years old, he played in every playoff series with the Timberwolves, but in a limited role," Golden wrote. "Still capable of helping a team, Conley might be looking for a bigger role, but finishing his career in his home state with a chance to win an NBA Championship could be enticing."

Conley is coming off of a 2025-26 NBA season that provided a lot of drama. After starting the year with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Conley was traded to the Chicago Bulls at the deadline. He was then waived by the Bulls and ended up returning to Minnesota.

Throughout the course of the year, Conley played in 54 games and made 15 starts. He averaged 4.5 points, 2.9 assists, and 1.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 33.5 percent from the floor and 33.7 percent from three-point range.

Obviously, Conley is no longer the star he once was. However, in a reserve role he could be valuable to have on the roster. Conley could also add quality veteran experience that could help Indiana.

Expect to see the Pacers be very active this offseason. They may not make a splash, but they're going to look at a lot of different options.

Conley would be a major surprise for Indiana to sign, but he's a name that has now been connected as a possible target to increase point guard depth.
