The Indiana Pacers have been named a possible mystery team to watch in Giannis Antetokounmpo trade talks.
The Indiana Pacers have been much more aggressive in recent years. One of the biggest moves in franchise history was the trade a couple of years ago to acquire star forward Pascal Siakam.
While the Pacers have been more aggressive, they have never been the team to pursue blockbuster win-now trades. That could change this offseason.
Kevin Pritchard hinted that he would consider making a blockbuster move this offseason if one presents itself.
“We are in win-now, and we’re gonna try and make moves this summer,” Pritchard said. “Maybe around the edges, maybe big. But we’ll see about that.”
With those comments being made, there is a chance Indiana could be ultra-aggressive. There would be no more aggressive move than pursuing a trade for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Keeping that in mind, CBS Sports analyst Sam Quinn has named the Pacers as a "plausible mystery team" for Antetokounmpo. However, he does admit that a trade between the two Central Division rivals would be a bit far-fetched.
"The Pacers can trade three first-round picks: 2027, 2031 and 2033, along with swaps in even years. Pascal Siakam could likely net a meaningful return if the Bucks dangled him to a third team. It's by no means the best package we'll cover in this space, but it's at least as promising as Miami's, and the Pacers with Antetokounmpo would be a far better team than the Heat would," Quinn wrote.
"If Antetokounmpo is serious about winning and remaining in the Eastern Conference, only Boston makes more sense. Alas, a move like this is out of Indiana's organizational character, and the bad blood that has built over the past few years doesn't help. It's not likely, but hey, a guy can dream."
Even though a trade for Antetokounmpo is incredibly unlikely, it's a fun scenario to think about.
Tyrese Haliburton is one of the best passing point guards in the NBA. His ability to create for teammates would make life much easier on Antetokounmpo.
Last season with the Bucks, the 31-year-old superstar played in 36 games and averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. Back in 2024-25, he played in 67 games and produced 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game.
Antetokounmpo would immediately make the Pacers an NBA Finals favorite. It's unlikely, but it's at least worth noting that they "could" put together a solid trade package for Milwaukee.
