A potential trade that would see the Indiana Pacers acquire Trey Murphy III has been suggested.
With the NBA offseason picking up steam, the Indiana Pacers have already been connected to a potential blockbuster trade scenario.
According to a report from NBA insider Marc Stein, the Pacers are one of the teams with high interest in pursuing a trade for New Orleans Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III.
"External trade interest in New Orleans' Trey Murphy III remains intense, league sources say," Stein wrote.
"Yet I was told this week that the inquiries have all been of an inbound nature. League sources say that the Pelicans have not offered Murphy anywhere and that this is the first time their new front office regime headed by Joe Dumars has been truly willing to field offers for Murphy. As one team interested in Murphy put it to me this week: 'They want a lot.' Two teams known to have expressed interest in the 25-year-old sharpshooter, I'm told, are Detroit and Indiana."
Since that report, the big question surrounding the Indiana fan base has had to do with what the Pacers would have to give up in order to acquire Murphy.
Keeping that in mind, a potential trade framework has been suggested by NBA reporter Evan Sidery.
Sidery believes that a potential trade package between the two teams could be Murphy heading to Indiana in exchange for Obi Toppin, Jarace Walker, Ben Sheppard, a 2031 first-round pick, a 2032 first-round pick swap, and a 2033 first-round pick.
Needless to say, the Pacers would be giving up a haul to acquire Murphy. However, it's a move that could actually make sense as the team looks to win now.
Murphy is coming off of a 2025-26 NBA season with the Pelicans that saw him appear in and start 66 games. He averaged 21.5 points per game to go along with 5.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.5 steals, while also shooting 47 percent from the floor and 37.9 percent from three-point range.
Adding those numbers to the lineup could be what Indiana needs to go all-in.
Making a move for the 25-year-old would not come cheap. But, he could be a piece to a championship both this season and for years to come.
Expect to hear more rumors about the Pacers as the offseason moves forward. Murphy has become a player of interest and is an option worth watching closely in the coming days and weeks.
