The New Orleans Pelicans fell 112-104 to the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night, falling to 10-36 on the year.
The New Orleans Pelicans were unable to take advantage of a Cade Cunningham-less Detroit Pistons squad as they fell 112-104 at home on Wednesday night.
The Pelicans fall to 10-36 on the year. New Orleans once again holds the worst record in the NBA.
They actually stayed in the game for a while, but they were beaten out of the gates and in the clutch. Two of the most important parts of the game have routinely killed the Pelicans this year.
What really killed this game for New Orleans was the three-point shooting, on both sides. These are two of the worst shooting teams in the NBA in terms of both volume and accuracy.
This was highlighted as a potential area of advantage for the Pelicans, but it was one of the biggest discrepancies. The Pistons shot 15-of-39 from deep while New Orleans shot 7-of-32 and didn't make one in the second or third quarters.
As Joe Dumars and Troy Weaver evaluate the state of the roster after this season, improving their shooting needs to be a priority. That was the goal of the Jordan Poole acquisition, but he hasn't been good this year and was 0-for-7 from deep in this game.
One major thing to watch from this game is the health of Zion Williamson. He walked to the locker room with around eight minutes left in the third quarter and did not return.
Williamson was questionable with an illness before the game and didn't look great when he was playing, so he could just be sick. Something to watch until the team shares an update.
This was the best game of Micah Peavy's young career. His 17 points were a new high for him, and he added seven rebounds, an assist, four steals and a block. He also did it with just one late turnover and on 7-of-12 from the field.
Peavy's energy helped bring the Pelicans back into the game after the 13-0 run by Detroit in the first quarter. He has turned into a great rotational piece in his rookie year.
New Orleans will return to the court on Friday night as they travel to take on the Memphis Grizzlies at 7 pm CT.
