The latest Trey Murphy trade rumors come from Bill Simmons of The Ringer.
There are a couple of things that the New Orleans Pelicans could do to send the fanbase into a frenzy this offseason, and trading Trey Murphy is one of them.
The only people that know for sure if a trade is coming are inside the Pelicans front office, but the rumors continue to pick up.
The latest comes from someone with a contentious history with the fanbase, The Ringer’s Bill Simmons. Local FOX 8 reporter Garland Gillen shared some interesting comments from Simmon’s latest podcast episode.
“We assume he’s probably going to get traded over the next three weeks. I think the Boston [Celtics] are a possibility. We thought whoever lost this [Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs] matchup is a possibility. You have two to three weeks to trade for someone like that,” said Simmons.
The decision whether or not to trade Murphy is going to be the toughest decision that New Orleans makes this offseason, including the hiring of Jamahl Mosley. Murphy has superstar potential for the Pelicans and could be the next leader for the better part of the next decade.
They could also trade him right now and recoup some major assets. Contending teams will be doing whatever they can to get Murphy, so there could be a bit of a bidding war.
About to turn 26, he is coming off a season where he put up 21.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists on 47.0/37.9/88.6 shooting splits. That was a career year and the trajectory is still pointing upwards.
