The New Orleans Pelicans signed forward Saddiq Bey to a three-year extension on Thursday. Now that the dust has settled, was it a good deal for the team?

Public reaction to this extension was that it was an overpay, but that's likely because of the fact that they weren't watching much Pelicans basketball last season. The New Orleans community, however, has been celebrating it. Here is how Pelicans Roundtable grades the deal:

The Pelicans have not done many things that the fanbase wanted them to do this offseason, but this was one they actually pulled off. Paying Bey was one of the easiest decisions that the front office could have made. He won over the city and the locker room last year.

Bey was viewed as a bit of an "add-in" to the deal that New Orleans made with the Washington Wizards to acquire Jordan Poole last year, but he is now the best addition from that deal by far.

The 27-year-old posted 17.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists on 45.1/36.7/84.1 shooting splits last season. It was a mix of a breakout and just a reminder. He has proven throughout his career that he can be a valuable role player, but he seems like a perfect fit for this team.

Bey plays an old-school, bully-style of basketball in the paint, but also has the skill to shoot from deep. He was the team's second-best shooter last season, which is not a great sign for the team, to be fair. 

On offense, he is as trustworthy as they come. He isn't a big playmaker for others, but he doesn't have many wasted possessions. He was above average in his scoring efficiency and, throughout his career, he rarely turns the ball over. 

The Pelicans' defense was also better with him on the court last season, largely because he is one of the team's best rebounders. He also rarely commits fouls.

Bey is just solid. Well, he's better than solid, but New Orleans can trust him and not have to think twice. There is a lot of value in that on a team, especially one that has been so volatile in recent years.

Overall, this is a very low-risk deal that has been received well by the fanbase. There are only so many moves made in the past year that could be described that way. This was a much-needed win for this front office.
