The New Orleans Pelicans made a roster transaction on Wednesday morning, transferring two-way guard Trey Alexander back to their NBA roster from the Birmingham Squadron, per the team.
Alexander went unselected in the 2024 NBA draft before signing and beginning his career with the Denver Nuggets.
The Oklahoma native played in 24 games for the Nuggets last year and averaged 1.3 points, 0.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists on 31.7/17.6/75.0 shooting splits. His best game came against the San Antonio Spurs when he scored seven points, adding two rebounds and an assist in 19 minutes of action.
He spent most of that season with the Grand Rapids Gold of the G League. He was the NBA G League Rookie of the Year and on the All-NBA G League Third Team.
Alexander signed a two-way contract with the Pelicans back in early July. This will be his first stint with the NBA team this season.
He's played in seven games for the Squadron this year and is averaging 18.9 points, 5.6 rebounds 4.6 assists and 2.3 steals on 41.6/36.2/63.6 shooting splits.
The 22-year-old spent three seasons with the Creighton Bluejays back in college and led them to two wins in the NCAA tournament alongside Ryan Kalkbrenner and Baylor Scheierman back in 2024.
Alexander shines in the midrange and has solid size for a guard at 6-foot-4. He has not been the most efficient scorer since leaving college but has the capabilities.
Don't expect him to play extensive minutes, but he could fill for another guard in a pinch.
