The New Orleans Pelicans had an open two-way spot on their roster after promoting Bryce McGowens, and have finally found someone to fill it.
The team announced on Thursday afternoon that they would be signing forward Josh Oduro to a two-way contract, promoting him after being a member of the Birmingham Squadron since he went undrafted in 2024.
Oduro, 25, is a 6-foot-9, 240-pound forward that mostly shines in the post. He was a skilled scorer in college and has continued that in the NBA G League.
This season, he has averaged 12.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists over 11 games. He has been working to improve as a three-point shooter, but still has a ways to go. He's shooting 55.1/28.6/66.7 splits this year. He has made just five of 32 career attempts in the G League.
He makes up for what he lacks in perimeter shooting with efficiency at the rim and activity on defense. He has 60 steals and blocks in just 27 games.
This is pretty much just the player that he is. Over five years in college, he averaged 12.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists with 0.7 steals and 1.1 blocks. On his best year, on the George Mason Patriots, he was up to 17.7, 7.5, 1.7, 1.1 and 1.7.
Oduro will join Hunter Dickinson and Trey Alexander as the two-way players to go along with the 15 active roster members.
Outside of McGowens, the Pelicans haven't really used their two-way guys. Dickinson played five minutes in the season opener and hasn't been called on since. Alexander has seen action in five games, but not since the beginning of January.
New Orleans might not need Oduro much, finally having a healthy roster, but they have him as an option if need be.
