New Orleans Pelicans' Trey Murphy Named Vice President of NBPA Executive Committee cover image

New Orleans Pelicans star forward Trey Murphy was recently named the Vice President of the NBPA Executive Committee.

New Orleans Pelicans star Trey Murphy is taking on additional responsibilities off the court, as he was announced as a Vice President of the NBPA Executive Committee on Friday.

It wasn't exactly the representation on All-Star Weekend that Murphy would have circled going into the year, but it is an honor, as he will be an important piece to the future of all players.

“Stepping into this role is a great opportunity to support the players and set up the next generation for success. I look forward to learning from the other guys in the room and contributing to the continued growth of our union," said Murphy in a statement released by the NBPA.

Memphis Grizzlies forward Santi Aldama was also introduced as a new Vice President. They were voted in during the Board of Player Representatives Winter Meeting on Friday and will replace Jaren Jackson Jr. and Donovan Mitchell. Players serve three-year terms.

The NBPA described their duties as helping "spearhead strategic planning, business affairs and key initiatives to carry out the NBPA’s work on behalf of all players."

Murphy certainly got a look at what the responsibilities will hold as CJ McCollum was the President during his time in New Orleans. His former teammate, Garrett Temple, is also a current Vice President.

This is a great step for Murphy to take in his career as he transitions from role player to star with the Pelicans. He's averaging a career 22.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists this year on 47.6/37.8/89.2 splits. It's certainly the best season of his career.

Just as important as his on-court role is his leadership off the court. He's a key part of the locker room in New Orleans and will only become more crucial as he gains more experience in the league.
