Brutal news for the New Orleans Pelicans as star forward Zion Williamson will miss an extended amount of time with a right adductor injury, per ESPN's Shams Charania. He will reportedly be re-evaluated in three weeks.
This is another in a long line of frustrating injuries for Williamson, who had entered the year with renewed hope that he would have better luck this season. He had stated he felt as good as he had since college and they found new workouts in the offseason, but through the first month of the campaign nothing has changed.
Williamson has played in just 10 of the team's 21 games and will now miss at least these three weeks of action, likely more.
This injury sort of comes out of nowhere as he seemed to be moving and playing fine in the last game that he played, against the Golden State Warriors. He missed the game against the Los Angeles Lakers, but that was a back-to-back and just some rest for his hamstring.
Charania followed up his earlier reporting by saying that this will sideline him for "a much longer period" than the two weeks that he missed earlier in the season.
Per databallr, the Pelicans are a -15.2 net rating with Williamson off the court. Both their offense and defense drop off by nearly 8 points. This is a tough blow to an already struggling team.
For New Orleans fans, many may view this as the last straw. Expect calls for the franchise to move in a different direction to only get louder as the star misses another big chunk of a season.
