Before New Orleans Pelicans media day began, there were a lot of questions that this fanbase had about this offseason. After speaking to everyone on the team, there are at least some answers to those questions.

There were three specific ideas that were highlighted as priority information to figure out. Here is an update on those three, specifically from the standpoint of the team's leadership:

As expected, after what the team decided to do from a roster-building standpoint this offseason, they don't seem likely to put much pressure on the youngsters to be the ones to turn this team around alone.

"A lot of times, you have to allow young players to develop at their own pace. Those guys are going to continue to grow. I've watched them this summer. You can tell they have a year under their belt. Just more confident, the way they're carrying themselves now," said Dumars. "I think we're deep enough on this team now where we don't have to put it all on anybody's back."

Dumars talked a lot about giving Queen and Fears time to grow and develop. That's all he wants to see from them this year. The team is more focused on increasing effort as a group rather than putting any one player ahead of another. Don't expect to see an order given to start one of them this year, just because the team spent draft capital on them.

This idea was spoken about a lot throughout the day. The general answer is that yes, they expect the coaching/culture change to lead to better results on the defensive end of the floor. Dumars himself said that he believes that, at the end of the day, defense is about who wants it more. The effort in the past wasn't good enough.

"I've said this to a lot of people in the building, defense is just about how hard you want to compete to not let the other guy do what he wants to do. You can talk about technique, but how bad do you want to stop this guy? That's what defense is."

As for the Mosley side of things, he also believes they have the personnel to compete on defense. Most of the fixes he has implemented this offseason have been ways to improve their communication and selflessness on that side of the ball. Respect for his system is already there, as they have all faced his defenses before.

"They understand and they've seen it works. There's gonna be a level of physicality that we hold with each team. There's the discipline that we have on the defensive end. The structure we have, the positioning, the ability to communicate at a high level, those are things that are key to us being successful."

Dumars said that sometimes you just want a player to "get it." It's clear that Williamson wasn't at that point when Dumars took over, but the boss has seen some changes in his star over the past year.

"If someone has to call you every morning to drag you out of bed to get you to work out, you don't get it yet," said Dumars. "But when you're up and you're doing it and you're the one leading it, then you start looking at that guy and go 'he's getting it now'... I was very pleased with Zion [this summer]."

Mosley spoke about what a lot of people wanted to hear about: Williamson expanding his offensive bag. He has been ultra-efficient in the paint, but that might be holding him back, as defenders can clog the paint without having to worry about him punishing them with a jump shot.

"As we come into coaching him as a staff, you understand that there's so many other pieces of his game that people don't recognize. His ability to pass [for one]. So the challenge for him that we want to put on his plate is how do you make your teammates better? Can you continue to expand your game more to where it's not just being predictable to what you're going to do night in and night out?"
