This is where the New Orleans Pelicans stars fell on a top 150 fantasy basketball ranking ahead of the season beginning.
For years, the New Orleans Pelicans have felt like a team that has been less than the sum of its parts.
The Pelicans have had issues with a combination of injury luck, players not buying in and poor leadership. This season, they are hoping to have fixed those issues, which could lead to greater success.
While fantasy production isn't an exact translation for actual production, preseason rankings can be a good look at how much of an impact the outer basketball world expects them to have this year. Here's a look at which New Orleans stars made the Top 150 preseason rankings from ESPN's Andre Snelling:
No. 52 - Dejounte Murray (SG8)
This spot makes sense for Murray, as he's a bit of a do-it-all guard who is sure to put up big numbers for points, rebounds, assists and steals. He hasn't had a full season of production in a while, so this year will be about reminding people what he can do.
No. 57 - Zion Williamson (PF11)
For a long time, when Williamson is healthy at least, he has been quite reliable. He can be counted on to be super efficient at the rim, dropping 20-to-25 points a night with a few rebounds and assists to go with it.
This year, the staff is trying to make him less predictable. The efficiency will probably drop, but he stands to gain a ton offensively by adding a consistent mid-range or three-point shot to his repetoire.
No. 64 - Trey Murphy (SF13)
Murphy has had almost exactly the same per-game production numbers over the last two years. He shoots the lights out, has progressed as a playmaker and generates a ton of steals/deflections. It would be surprising to see his production too far, though there does seem to be a lot of mouths to feed on this team with everyone healthy.
No. 86 - Derik Queen (C21)
Queen, like Murray, does a little bit of everything. Whenever he is on the court, he can be relied on to fill the stat sheet. The question this year will be how often he is on the court. Yves Missi is expected to be the starter, but Queen should still be very involved in his sophomore year, as the team still wants him to develop.
No. 111 - Jeremiah Fears (SG21)
Similar to Queen, Fears isn't expected to begin the year in the starting lineup. That could put him behind the eight ball. The sophomore guard has shown the ability to score in bunches and rebound well, but he needs to progress as a playmaker before he is considered well-rounded like Murray.
No. 144 - Saddiq Bey (SF34)
This is a little bit of a drop for Bey based off last year's success, but he is certainly someone who will likely see less looks now that the team is healthy again. Bey started 64 games and put up 13.4 shots per night last season. While he earned his extension and will still be important, it would be shocking for him to keep up that volume.
