The New Orleans Pelicans entered the year with much higher expectations than what the season has played out as they sit at 13-38.
The product on the court has been much better as of late, though, thanks to the team getting healthy and a couple of players living up to their potential/coming into their own on this team.
Not everything about the team has been a disaster. There are actually a couple of players who have been very impressive as of late.
Here are the Pelicans stars who have had the biggest positive impact on the team this season, using the net rating from Cleaning the Glass:
It's not too long ago that people talked about Missi like he was unplayable. It's for a reason. He started the season off slow and saw his minutes hit a patch of inconsistency.
The sophomore has only been playing basketball for a handful of years, and it's noticeable. He's raw. For the past few weeks, though, great things have happened when he hits the court.
His game still doesn't always show up on the box score, but he's improved in crucial areas. He is one of the best offensive rebounding bigs in the league and is a top blocker as well; those are two things that New Orleans has desperately needed.
The 21-year-old's name has popped up in trade rumors throughout the year, but it's becoming harder to justify.
Jones' consistent injury issues have hurt his season overall, but it has only made the impact he has on the team more noticeable. These are two different squads when he is in the game and when he is out.
The Pelicans are 8-4 in the last 12 games he has played in. That includes impressive wins over teams like the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs.
While Jones himself has struggled at times on offense, the team has been better overall when he plays. He has a fairly high assist-to-usage ratio, creates turnovers and rebounds well.
He is another player who is highly sought after on the trade market, but all indications are that New Orleans is going to hold on to him.
Bey has been a revelation this season. He was basically filler in the trade this offseason that brought him and Jordan Poole over from the Washington Wizards, but he has undoubtedly been the best part of that deal.
The forward has also taken it up another notch with the consistency and volume as of late. Since coming back from his hip injury earlier in the month, Bey has averaged 21.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals with a 48.5/44.4/89.2 shooting split over 10 games.
He's making just $6.1 million this year and $6.4 million next year. New Orleans should keep a focus on keeping him around after that contract is up. He fits in well on and off the court.
