Detroit Pistons Throttle Charlotte Hornets To Form 3-Game Winning Streak

For the second time in one week, the Detroit Pistons have defeated the Charlotte Hornets in resounding fashion

History does not always repeat itself, but it often rhymes.

On Monday night, the Detroit Pistons carried out the NBA version of that adage when they held the Charlotte Hornets under 100 points for the second time in one week with a 124-91 victory on the road.

With such a lopsided win in the books, the Pistons held firm in their position atop the Eastern Conference with a 6-1 record. In fact, Detroit has accumulated their second three-game winning streak of the 2026-27 campaign, and they did so in emphatic style by setting a season-high in triples and steals during the process.

From a scoring standpoint, Pistons point guard Cade Cunningham led the way with 33 points, five rebounds and seven assists, and much of his handiwork occurred in the third quarter when Detroit went on a 27-2 tear. The Pistons had already built a marginal advantage by that point, but the game’s remaining time became more of a formality after Detroit’s dominant one-sided run.

“We got stops,” Duncan Robinson said of that turning point. “I think they were stuck at 75 for a while. When we get stops, the game becomes really easy for us.”

Entering the game, Robinson was already on pace to set a new career high in scoring with over 16 points per game, but the veteran sniper improved on that mark with a 24-point explosion against the Hornets. Despite a slower start, Robinson started sinking triples during the second quarter before finishing with a game-high six three-pointers to his credit. But on top of that shooting display, Robinson mixed it up with three steals as well to put forth a complete two-way performance on the road.

”It’s a fun group,” Robinson said. “We’re just embracing the moment, opportunity, day-by-day, game by game. It’s just fun showing up with these guys every single day.”

From a defensive perspective, the Pistons forced the Hornets into committing 27 turnovers on the night, which is part of Detroit’s blueprint for success. With so many extra possessions, the Pistons punished Charlotte on othe fastbreak with a 23-point edge in that department, and Ron Holland II was a big part of that total.

Though Cunningham was pulled early in the fourth quarter given the substantial lead, Holland stayed in the game and continued to knock down shots for Detroit. After hitting a pair of long-range attempts against the Brooklyn Nets on Friday, Holland showed some confidence and followed that effort with three treys and 11 points against the Hornets.

Late in the fourth quarter, Holland was bloodied up after trying to swipe an inbounds pass, but it looked to be just a minor abrasion. At that point in the contest, Detroit had already put Tolu Smith, Isaac Jones, Chaz Lanier and Ebuka Okorie into the game alongside Holland, so the Pistons could sprinkle some playing time onto the end of the bench in lieu of their 33-point win.

With their sixth victory in the books, the Pistons will have a day off before hosting the Philadelphia 76ers at home on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 7 pm.
