Injury Report: Detroit Pistons Vs. Charlotte Hornets
Oct 28, 2026 8:30 PM

Both the Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets are taking a 3-1 record into tonight’s Eastern Conference battle

After starting the regular season on a 3-0 run, the Detroit Pistons suffered their first loss of the year in last night’s road game against the New York Knicks. The Pistons were already at a disadvantage entering the contest without Jalen Duren or Isaiah Joe in the lineup, but their options shrunk even further when Ausar Thompson fouled out in the second half of their 111-97 loss to the defending champs.

But as the byproduct of a rigorous schedule, the Pistons have an opportunity to wash that bad taste out of their mouth right away with the second leg of a back-to-back tonight against the Charlotte Hornets, an Eastern Conference matchup that is set for a 7 pm tip-off.

Last season, the Pistons and Hornets were famously involved in one of the most contentious games of the 2025-26 campaign when JD engaged in a confrontation with Moussa Diabate, but most of the vitriol leftover from that altercation has evaporated. Isaiah Stewart is now a member of the Memphis Grizzlies with Miles Bridges suiting up for the Phoenix Suns, so tonight’s matchup is not expected to deliver any outrageous fireworks, especially since Duren is still out as he recovers from a hamstring strain.

Along those lines, the Pistons are managing a few injuries in the early portion of the season. Ausar Thompson, who picked up a sprained ankle against the Miami Heat in game No. 2, is probable to play tonight, so Detroit will have 80% of their starting lineup available. Thompson featured in the Pistons’ loss last night in NYC, but he only logged 25 minutes in his return.

Transitioning to the bench, the Pistons will still be without Joe as he’s feeling lingering soreness from his hip contusion after taking a hard spill near the baseline against the Philadelphia 76ers. Joe, who is usually more well-known for his perimeter impact, threw down a forceful tomahawk dunk in transition against Philly, but he paid the price with a hard crash-landing on the court.

Flipping to Charlotte’s side of the game, the Hornets have multiple players listed on their injury report as well. Coby White, Grant Williams and Kon Knueppel have all been ruled out of tonight’s game ahead of time, so the Hornets will be rolling with a decidedly shorter bench as they look to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Though the 2026-27 season is so young, both the Pistons and the Hornets are currently in a four-way tie for the top position in the Eastern Conference at 3-1. The Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers have also achieved a .750 winning percentage thus far, but the Pistons already own a victory over each of those squads.
