Pistons guard Cade Cunningham casually logged a near-triple-double in Detroit’s big win over the Bucks

The Detroit Pistons had lost 13 consecutive games against Milwaukee before facing the Bucks on Saturday night. Cade Cunningham knew it, and he was determined not to let that total reach 14 games in what became a 129-116 win for the Detroit Pistons.

Prior to the big road win, Cunningham reminded his teammates of the score between the two clubs according to Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff. Cunningham was aware that the Bucks had bested Detroit repeatedly in recent meetings, and the Pistons’ All-Star guard took it personally.

So, it should come as no surprise when Cunningham casually logged another near-triple-double with 29 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds on the night. Cunningham, who went 3-for-6 from long-range, controlled the tempo of the game and was able to break down the Bucks’ defense from the jump, posting seven assists in the first half alone.

Although the Bucks kept the game close in the first quarter, the Pistons were able to open up a healthy lead before halftime, and a steady regimen of tight defensive pressure paired with lethal shooting from behind the arc allowed Detroit to wrap up its 12th consecutive victory, pushing the team to 14-2 on the year.

    Ivey Looking Sharp In Return

Saturday night marked the regular season return of Jaden Ivey for the first time since Jan. 1. Making his debut, Ivey showed that he had not lost a step after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee last month. Against the Bucks, Ivey was the leading scorer for Detroit off the bench with 10 points, but it was the way he moved on the court that was most confidence-inspiring.

Throughout his career, Ivey has built his calling card around speed and athleticism, and the fourth-year guard still has those qualities in spades. Ivey raced down the court, changed direction quickly and kept his head on a swivel versus Milwaukee, and he even took over primarily ball handling responsibilities from Cunningham several times during the contest.

Now that Ivey is back in the rotation, the Pistons can work out their balance between Cunningham, Ivey and Daniss Jenkins, who has emerged as a handy, versatile guard to use in a bevy of scenarios.

Detroit Shooting Lights Out From Long-Range

On most nights, the Pistons rely on their stringent defense and transition-oriented offense to slowly break down teams, but Detroit was effective in hitting outside shots from the opening tip-off. Making his return from a sprained ankle injury, Tobias Harris started against the Bucks and posted 18 points on 3-for-5 shooting from behind the arc. Cunningham, as mentioned earlier, hit a trio of big triples in the 13-point win, but Duncan Robinson showed once again why he’s looked upon as the most lethal long-range shooter on the Pistons.

Finishing with 15 points on the night, Robinson did all of his work from the perimeter with a stunning 5-for-6 performance under his belt. Robinson hit multiple open jumpers, but he was also effective cutting off screens and in the dribble hand-off game as well. Overall, the Pistons shot the ball much better than usual from outside, and it helped provide an extra boost in what was an important win for Detroit as a unit and as a team.

Next up, the Pistons will face a 2-14 Indiana Pacers team on the road at 7 pm on Monday, Nov. 24.
