The Detroit Pistons are looking to get back in the win column after dropping two consecutive games on the road to the Cleveland Cavs within the last week

With the Eastern Conference Semifinals gridlocked at 2-2, the Detroit Pistons are in desperate need of a victory to help swing some momentum back in their direction. Over the last two games, the Cleveland Cavs defended home court admirably with a pair of single-digit victories, though the free throw distribution between the two teams in game four inspired more than a small amount of doubt regarding the officiating in this second round series.

But even despite a rather unfavorable whistle, the Pistons have an opportunity to take care of business tonight, but the top seed in the East is currently managing a trio of injuries that could impact Detroit’s lineup for the second round matchup.

So far, Duncan Robinson has started all 11 postseason games for the Pistons up to this point, but the veteran sharp-shooter is currently battling lower back soreness, and he’s listed as questionable heading into game five after a disappointing four-point output on Monday night. During the regular season, Robinson connected on shots from behind the arc at a 40% rate, so his availability is pivotal to a Detroit squad that needs every last shooter they can suit up at this stage in the season.

Along a similar line, Kevin Huerter, who has been known to sink a long-range shot or two in his day, is still working through a left adductor strain. Huerter has not factored into any of the four playoff games against the Cavs yet, and he is questionable to reverse that trend tonight.

Finally, Detroit will monitor the status of veteran guard Caris LeVert before tonight’s 8 pm matchup. LeVert was also listed as questionable for game four’s injury report with a right heel contusion, but the Michigan product was able to grind it out for a gutsy 24-point effort against Cleveland, which stands as a high-water mark for LeVert during the 2025-26 campaign. LeVert’s production was a welcomed surprise for a Pistons unit that needed whatever secondary scoring they could produce in game four, but that offensive explosion from the 6-7 guard was not enough to lift Detroit in the 112-103 contest

On the other side of the second round matchup, the Cavs have kept a mostly healthy lineup for the duration of the series. Midway through, Sam Merrill held a questionable designation with some hamstring irritation, but the three-point specialist fought through the pain to help push the Cavs towards victory in game three with seven points on 2-for-3 shooting.

During the regular season, Merrill was responsible for 12.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 rebounds per game, so the 6-4 guard out of Utah State functioned mostly as a sixth-man with upward mobility as a perimeter shooter who can help the Cavs space the floor given his outside gravity. Merrill’s presence at the three-point line forces the Pistons to close out and stay honest, which in turn can unclog the paint for Donovan Mitchell to drive to the bucket, which is something the speedy scorer did with regularity on Monday.
