The Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves are set for a cross-conference battle with one superstar holding a questionable designation heading into the game

On Tuesday night, the Detroit Pistons were able to bounce back into the win column with a 127-116 victory at home over the Toronto Raptors after falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder the night before. The Pistons had a few reinforcements back in the lineup for the Eastern Conference matchup, and Detroit will continue to operate on the healthier side for tonight’s contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

For the Central Division champions, Cade Cunningham is continuing to recover from a collapsed lung, and he will be unavailable for tonight’s matchup. Recently, Cunningham was on the bench for the Pistons’ most recent game against Toronto, and the All-Star point guard is slowly working his way back into organized team activities.

Earlier in the week, Cunningham was spotted participating in a light individual workout, which is a good sign that his health is moving in a positive direction. While the floor general’s eventual return date is still unknown, the Pistons are slated to reevaluate Cunningham’s injury sometime this week, so more information should be available soon.

UPDATE: The Pistons announced today that Cunningham is going to continue rehabbing for one week, then Detroit will evaluate the All-Star’s progress again at that time.

Apart from that concerning absence, Detroit will go another game without Isaiah Stewart down in the paint to reject shots at the rim. Stewart, who is averaging 10 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game, has a nagging left calf strain that hasn’t quite healed up yet, so the defensive force is going to miss another game in the back end of the regular season.

To round out the Pistons’ injury report, third-year guard Marcus Sasser left Detroit’s win over Minnesota during the second half, and the team confirmed shortly thereafter that he would not return due to hip pain. Sasser has battled this same injury on and off throughout the 2025-26 campaign, so the Pistons will be careful with his health considering the postseason is just around the corner. Sasser is listed as questionable for tonight’s cross-conference battle.

Chaz Lanier, Isaac Jones and Bobi Klintman will be unavailable as well since the trio have G-League duties to attend to with the Motor City Cruise advancing to the semi-finals.

Will Anthony Edwards Play Tonight?

In Minnesota’s most recent game, which was a 124-94 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, Anthony Edwards made his return to the lineup after a six-game spell on the sidelines with knee pain. In his first game back, Edwards had a modest 17-point contribution, which is over 10 points short of his season average, during 23 minutes of action off the bench. Now, Edwards was scheduled to start, but he was briefly unavailable at tip-off time, so Mike Conley filled his role in the starting lineup before the star could properly make his return.

So, Anthony is currently listed as questionable to play against the Pistons, but Minnesota is likely to confirm his status closer to game time.

Outside of Ant’s knee issue, the Timberwolves are going to be without Jaden McDaniels for their matchup with the Eastern Conference’s top seed as the sixth-year forward deals with left knee patella tendinopathy. McDaniels is currently listed as week-to-week, so he’s not going to factor into tonight’s game.

Tip-off between the two contenders is set for 7 pm tonight and can be viewed on Amazon Prime.
