The Detroit Pistons star guard was honored for his dominance over the past week

In what may turn out to be a common occurrence during the 2025-26 regular season, Pistons guard Cade Cunningham was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for his sensational late-game scoring effort over the past several games.

Over the past week, Cunningham has been automatic during clutch moments, and he’s guided the Pistons to a 4-0 record over that timespan. With 31 points per game and nearly 10 assists per night, Cunningham is producing at a high level amid Detroit’s six-game winning streak, and he’s made it look relatively easy.

Working in the pick and roll with Pistons center Jalen Duren, Cade has helped his big man teammate elevate his game to another level as well. Both Cade and JD have been double-double machines over the past week, and they rank as the No. 1 assist pair in the entire NBA so far.

After the Pistons 111-108 win over the Philadelphia 76ers last night, Detroit head coach J.B. Bickerstaff was effusive in his praise for Cunningham. Bickerstaff mentioned how Cade performs at an “elite” level when the game is on the line, and he reinforced how the Pistons squad trusts Cade to make the important decisions with the result hanging in the balance.

So far, Cunningham has taken that responsibility and used it to elevate his play. The Pistons currently stand in first place atop the Eastern Conference, and Cunningham’s consistent productivity and efficient playmaking has pushed Detroit into a patch of abject early-season success.

The Pistons issued a press release to congratulate their star point guard on the impressive honor, highlighting Cunningham's stellar play as of late.

"The No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft, Cunningham holds season averages of 25.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 9.8 assists and is shooting 46.5% from the field and 30.6% from 3-point range in 10 games. His 9.8 assists per game ranks second in the NBA and is the highest average by a Piston since Isiah Thomas (10.0, 1986-87)."

The Pistons will take on the Washington Wizards at home tonight with a 7:00 tip-off.
