A new face will be in Detroit as the Pistons fill their final roster spot

After entering the 2025-26 regular season with an open spot on the roster, the Detroit Pistons have filled their 15th roster spot by claiming second-year center Isaac Jones off waivers from the Sacramento Kings. This season, Jones played in three games for the Kings, posting marginal numbers in limited action before being waived by the club.

Standing at 6-8 and 245 pounds, Jones is a bit undersized by conventional center standards, so perhaps Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff will use Jones as a power forward. Recently, Detroit has opted to start Isaiah Stewart at power forward as Tobias Harris recovers from a sprained ankle, so Jones could provide some depth down low either way.

Last season, Jones was a key member of the Kings’ G-League affiliate, the Stockton Kings, and helped the squad ultimately win the G-League Championship last season. Earning All-NBA G-League honors in his rookie season, Jones averaged 21.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and just over one block per game last year.

Apart from his time in the G-League, Jones played in 40 games in the NBA for Sacramento last season, and he was exceedingly efficient in limited minutes, logging a 65% shooting rate from the field.

What does this mean for Malik Beasley?

Now that the Pistons have finally filled the final spot on their roster, this move puts to rest (for now) any speculation that Detroit will be adding Malik Beasley as the final piece to the squad. Now, if Beasley is cleared by the league from its investigation, the Pistons could choose to sign Beasley and waive Jones, but the situation is settled for the moment.

However, if Beasley is cleared by the NBA in the next few weeks, it would still be in the Pistons’ best interest to bring him back into the fold. Beasley connected on over 300 three-points amid the team’s franchise record-shooting year when shooting from distance, and a little bit of floor spacing and outside shooting would really help round out the team’s offensive profile this year.

During the offseason, the Pistons brought in Duncan Robinson to help replace the long-range marksmanship that Beasley helped provide, and although the veteran has started each game to start the season, Robinson has not integrated into the lineup seamlessly. So, the Pistons would still be well-served to add a player of Beasley’s caliber, and it’s clear that the free agent would prefer to play in Detroit.

Now, Jones will have an opportunity to make his debut for the Pistons when the team travels to Brooklyn for a 7:30 pm game against the Nets on Friday, Nov. 7.
