The Detroit Pistons have nearly one week to rest up before beginning their playoff journey on Sunday, April 19 at 6:30 pm

After defeating the Indiana Pacers 133-121 last night to end the regular season on a three-game winning streak, the Detroit Pistons have their longest stretch to rest up and regroup since the All-Star Break.

The Pistons closed a memorable 2025-26 campaign by hitting the 60-win threshold for just the third time in franchise history, which is a testament to their spartan-like focus throughout an arduous NBA season filled with back-to-backs and lengthy travel requirements.

Since the club will enter the playoffs as the one seed in the Eastern Conference, the Pistons have six days to redirect their focus towards one of four teams from the play-in round. Currently, the Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets are duking it out on one half of the qualification bracket, while the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic are set to compete on the other side.

Regardless of which opponent the Pistons will face, Detroit head coach J.B. Bickerstaff already understands what the next week will consist of for his squad.

“Prepatration, preparation and more preparation,” Bickerstaff said after last night’s double-digit victory. “I think that’s good for us. Systematically, we can clean some things up. We can study our opponents, dive in a little bit deeper than you typically can in a regular season with so many games coming, so you just try to put your guys in the best position possible to go out and get the job done.”

During the season, the Pistons accrued either a winning record or at the worst a tie in the season series against every team in the East, so Detroit should match up well with whoever they will face to open up the playoffs. But regardless of that reality, Bickerstaff and his team will still be dialed into the results of those high-stakes contests during the week.

“I think you have to,” Bickerstaff said. “You’ve got to pay attention. You watch tendencies, whether it’s a team or individual players, all those things, especially in games like this that are so meaningful. Things can be exposed one way or another.”

Last season, the Pistons received a brief taste of the postseason during their first round battle against the New York Knicks, though Detroit was eventually dispatched without a ticket to advance further in the playoffs. So, Bickerstaff is hoping to use that experience to fuel this current group to continuously set the bar higher for the Pistons.

But raising the bar is precisely what Bickerstaff has accomplished in Motown ever since he arrived ahead of the 2024-25 season. Bickerstaff lifted a team that lost 68 games the season before he arrived and turned mostly the same group into a squad that won 60 regular season games just two years later. So, this year’s playoffs represent just the latest challenge for the Pistons, and Bickerstaff will use this week to make sure his team is ready for whichever opponent falls their way.
