Former Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley may be headed to Serbia to continue his career

Lately, all has been quiet on the Western front regarding Malik Beasley, but that may soon change.

While the talented, sharp-shooting three-point specialist has been eager to return to the NBA– and presumably the Detroit Pistons if he had his choice– but the league has stalled the process as an investigation carries on. Beasley was involved in a federal investigation earlier in the year, and there have been conflicting reports regarding its status, though Beasley has said that he’s been cleared of federal charges and expects to be reinstated to the NBA soon.

That was about a month ago, and Beasley still has not signed with the Pistons or any other NBA team, so the skilled shooting guard may pursue an opportunity overseas with Partizan Belgrade of the EuroLeague. Stationed in Serbia, Partizan Belgrade is one of the most successful hoops teams from the country and one of few to have won the EuroLeague, which Partizan Belgrade accomplished in 1992. Partizan Belgrade has since made the EuroLeague Final Four two more times since then, once in 1998 and again in 2010.

Now, Beasley would clearly like to suit up for the Detroit Pistons this season. Beasley has expressed that wish openly, and he’s stayed in Detroit to train at the University of Detroit–Mercy over the past several months. Since Beasley has stayed active and ready to go, he would theoretically be able to slot right in on a Pistons’ squad that is in search of extra outside shooting.

Of late, the Pistons have had to go up against a zone defense much more than in the early stages of the 2025-26 regular season. Over the last four games, Detroit has faced a zone on 25% of their half-court possessions and have had mixed results against it. Playing against Milwaukee’s zone on Wednesday, the Pistons struggled to shoot from outside and lost by four. The Pistons were without Duncan Robinson for the game, the team’s most consistent shooter, and Detroit struggled to crack the code that night. But against Portland and the Bucks again more recently, the Pistons were a bit more prepared to manipulate the zone defense to find open looks.

If Beasley were a member of the Pistons, it is likely that Detroit would have fared better against the Bucks mid-week. Beasley helped the Pistons set a franchise record in three-point shots last year, and the combination of Beasley with Robinson would force opposing defenses quite thin as they stretch the floor to cover such dangerous shooters.

Beasley’s situation will be one to follow over the next few days to see if confirmation of his move to Serbia arises. Beasley is reportedly open to a deal in the $2 million dollar range, so the former Piston would be well-compensated for his time abroad.
