With the Pistons still resting up until Friday’s game against the Hawks, trade possibilities have run wild that would have Detroit landing anyone from Giannis Antetokounmpo to Anthony Davis. At Pistons Roundtable, we have covered the potential Giannis trade extensively, including an article posted today with NBA Contributor Josh Eberley about how close the deal actually is.
But more recently, Davis has surfaced as a name to watch for the Pistons according to Shams Charania.
Now, Giannis and Anthony Davis are not created equal. The former is likely to play at a high level for longer, but he is also expected to cost significantly more. For Giannis to wind up in Detroit, a deal would likely require multiple young core pieces and multiple first round draft picks to complete the trade.

Anthony Davis would not require as near a steep trade package, and that is why the Pistons may be pursuing the Dallas big man right now. With Davis reportedly on the trade block, the Pistons could add a big man with defensive chops who could be a reliable No. 2 scoring option next to Cade Cunningham.
Fortunately for Detroit, the Pistons would not have to part with as many assets to lure AD to the Motor City. The Mavericks may be willing to accept a deal involving Ron Holland II, Tobias Harris and a collection of draft picks to push the deal over the line. If the salary matches, Pistons President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon could be inclined to pull the trigger.

Detroit Pistons star guard Cade Cunningham was caught in a precarious situation over the past week
Throughout his career, Davis has made the All-Star team 10 times and he’s also a five-time member of the NBA All-Defensive team. After winning an NCAA title, an NBA Championship, an Olympic Gold Medal and a FIBA World Cup Gold, Davis is used to winning at a high level. And with the Pistons looking to reach the next level as a championship-winning squad, Davis could be the piece to push them over the top.
The reality of the situation is that Davis is long past his prime. While he would not require as large of a trade package to make the deal happen, there is a reason for that. Over the past several years, Davis has continued to have a significant issue staying healthy, and the Pistons do not need an injury-prone player taking up such a large amount of salary cap in the midst of what could be a championship push.
