Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham took some time to meet with the media ahead of the 2026 NBA All-Star Game

Before the 2026 NBA All-Star Game kicks off at 5 pm, take a look back on a few highlights from Detroit Pistons point guard Cade Cunningham Media Day session yesterday.

Of course, Cunningham made headlines when he vowed to speak with his teammate, Isaiah Stewart, about assisting with his expensive fine after picking up a seven-game suspension for fighting Hornets forward Miles Bridges. Now, Cunningham was backed into a corner on this one by former NBA star DeMarcus Cousins, but the All-Star's response seemed genuine and sincere.

But apart from that, Cunningham made a host of interesting comments ahead of his second consecutive All-Star appearance.

Which Pistons teammates outside of himself and Jalen Duren have contributed to Detroit's success:

“First name, Isaiah Stewart. He was the first one. He’s the longest tenured Piston right now. He’s just been through the mud with the team, never changed, just continued to work. He’s had so many different roles that he’s had to play. But every year, he just works his tail off and he finds a way to contribute. So, Isaiah Stewart is by far the first name that comes to mind.”

Who would win in a battle between 2020 Montverde and 2016 Chino Hill?

“You know the answer to this. You’re about to ask me Montverde or Chino Hill. Come on, man, you know. [smiles] Montverde, every time. We were the greatest high school team ever. I was moving the ball, I didn’t score too much. I probably averaged 14, 15 points on my high school team my senior year, so I would probably have had 14 or 15, my average.”

Cade's take on the current All-Star Game format:

“I grew up just wanting to be in the All-Star Game, so my only two years now it’s been these different formats. I’d like to experience the East vs West. I want to be able to experience what all the greats played in and everything. I’m just playing the cards I was dealt, and I’m sure it’ll come back eventually.”

What about adding 1-on-1 to the All-Star Game:

“I would pick myself if you give me the option, [laughs] but to elaborate on that question though, outside of me, KD doesn’t have a problem scoring on anybody, so he has to be towards the top of that list. I would say Ant [Edwards] is up there too. I would probably go them two.”

The local Detroit media already knows that Cade has a great sense of humor, but the All-Star point guard let the national audience into his joking nature during the Media Day session. But when the lights flip on for tip-off at 5 pm EST, Cunningham is going to revert to his usual business-like approach as he, Duren and head coach J.B. Bickerstaff will push for a victory for Team USA.
