The Detroit Pistons have reached an agreement with Javonte Green for the veteran to return for his second season with the organization
As the offseason ticks along, the Detroit Pistons have continued to reshape and mold their roster after flaming out in the second round of the playoffs last season. At that time, the Pistons struggled to counter the Cleveland Cavaliers’ tendency to pack the paint, so one focus for Detroit has been adding significant perimeter gravity, which they’ve accomplished by trading for Isaiah Joe and acquiring John Collins.
But in other Motown news, the Pistons reached an agreement with Ironman Javonte Green for the veteran to return for one more season after he became the only Detroit player to feature in all 82 regular season games last year.
During the 2025-26 campaign, Green developed into one of the more reliable members of the Pistons and earned a significant amount of trust from head coach J.B. Bickerstaff. At 6-5 and 205 pounds, Green has the ability to guard multiple positions with his combination of size and defensive instincts, which translated to 1.2 steals per game for the Motor City squad.
Known as “Woo” throughout the halls of the Henry Ford Health Pistons Performance Center, Green served as a valuable glue guy that clearly had a positive impact on the morale and spirit for Detroit. But in terms of the counting stats, Green averaged just 6.9 points, 2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, which would indicate that his intangible qualities may have been the most valuable aspect of his performance.
At the moment, the Pistons are working on establishing balance to their roster after adding Joe through the trade market and point guard Ebuka Okorie through the draft. Green, however, spent a lot of time at the three with various opportunities at the four, so his ideal position could be on the wing given his versatile profile as a player who can do a little bit of everything.
In terms of his contributions from the perimeter, Green shot 38.1% from three-point range in the regular season, but the vet actually saw his playing time decrease in the playoffs. After logging playing time in every regular season contest, Green registered a series of DNPs against the Cavs, which coincides with his three-point efficiency dropping to just 25.9% in the postseason.
Regardless of those struggles, Green will be back on a team-friendly one-year deal worth $3.95 million for the upcoming season. And with Green back in the fold, the Pistons now have their 15th roster spot filled, but that does not mean that Detroit will sit idly on their hands for the rest of the summer.
Much to the contrary, the Pistons are still working through contract negotiations with restricted free agent Jalen Duren, who has held multiple meetings with other teams across the league in order to obtain a salary that the All-Star feels is suitable for the next several years. At 22 years old, Duren still has room to grow after finishing in second place for the Most Improved Player award last season, but all signs point to the Pistons bringing JD back for a price tag that they feel is appropriate given the immense leverage that Detroit has compared to the rest of the NBA.
