A former Detroit Piston is making the move overseas to play with Virtus Bologna in Italy next season
Last season, the Detroit Pistons took the regular season as seriously as any team in the league, and the Motown squad utilized their depth to win 60 games during that timespan en route to securing the top seed in the Eastern Conference. The Pistons were fortunate to avoid serious injury until Cade Cunningham’s punctured lung towards the end of the year, but head coach J.B. Bickerstaff frequently rotated role players in and out of the lineup before logically shrinking that rotation in the playoffs.
During that process, the Pistons were able to cycle players from the G-League’s Motor City Cruise up to the NBA and vice versa in order to keep everyone involved, and that is how they found Daniss Jenkins emerging as a reliable floor general at the professional level. Jenkins was an aberration early on for a Pistons squad that needed a temporary injury replacement for backup point guard Marcus Sasser, but not every player on the fringe found that same level of success.
For Wendell Moore Jr., the fourth-year forward battled for playing time with the Pistons and only logged six games last season, though he logged much more consistent playing time for the Cruise in the G-League. But in the NBA during his second stint with the Pistons, the former first-round pick racked up just 60 regular season minutes during the 2025-26 campaign, which laid the groundwork for his departure from the league this offseason.
According to the EuroLeague, Moore has signed a deal with Virtus Bologna to head overseas and continue his professional career in Italy with a team that also picked up Bobi Klintman during the summer.
At 24-years old, Moore still has a lot of quality basketball in his future, and he’ll be looked upon as a crucial contributor for Bologna given his NBA credentials. Last season, Moore averaged just under 20 points per game with the Cruise and hit three-pointers at a 39% clip, so the former Duke player can still play even though his tenure in Detroit ultimately did not work out.
Moving forward, Moore will have the opportunity to make Virtus Bologna a contender in both the EuroLeague and Lega Basket Serie A, where the club finished first in the regular season before a surprising postseason demise. As for their EuroLeague performance, Bologna posted a 14-24 record that was not enough to compete for any hardware, so Virtus have undergone a slight rebuild with a pair of former Pistons among their acquisitions this offseason.
Overall, Moore could serve as an adequate perimeter defender with a 7-foot wingspan to go along with his 6-5 length on the wing. If Bologna is looking for an up-tempo player who has been schooled in the non-negotiable principles of defense in the Motor City, then Moore should slot right in as a positive asset for the club next season.
