The Toronto Raptors face a surging Milwaukee Bucks team without one of its key starters.

The Toronto Raptors announced a roster update ahead of Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks. All-Star forward Scottie Barnes will miss Sunday’s game due to personal reasons, the team confirmed after he was excused from practice on Saturday. Barnes had not participated in two straight practices leading into the matchup, leaving his availability in question throughout the weekend.

Raptors coach Darko Rajaković and the organization did not disclose specifics beyond the personal designation. Barnes’ absence will force adjustments to Toronto’s rotation and game plan as it visits a struggling Bucks team that remains without star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Raptors, 33-23, have been in strong position throughout the season but losing a key starter presents a challenge in a critical portion of the schedule.

Scottie Barnes is Having a Remarkable Season with the Raptors

Barnes has been one of Toronto’s most pivotal players in 2025-26. He is averaging 19.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game, while adding 1.3 steals and 1.6 blocks per contest, showing all-around impact on both ends of the floor. His statistical output places him among the Raptors’ most versatile contributors this season. Barnes’ ability to score, rebound, facilitate and defend has helped Toronto maintain its fifth position in the Eastern Conference standings.

Over the past 10 games, Barnes was averaging 16.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 2.7 blocks and 1.1 steals, showcasing his defensive presence in particular. He has proved capable of producing high-value all-around performances, including 24 double-doubles and two triple-doubles this season.

Barnes was also named as an All-Star reserve earlier in the season, marking his second career selection. His performance has been central to Toronto’s success in tight contests and against upper-tier teams. Without him, the Raptors will likely see an increase in minutes for frontcourt and wing players such as Jakob Poeltl, who was benched against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday, Sandro Mamukelashvili and Collin Murray-Boyles, and more ball-handling responsibility for guards.

Losing Barnes for even a single game forces adjustments to both starting lineups and defensive schemes. Toronto’s depth will be tested as it faces a Milwaukee team that is starting to show signs of life with six wins in its last seven games, including victory against the league-leading Oklahoma City Thunder.

Barnes’ next earliest chance to play is expected to come on Tuesday against the Thunder.

Tip-off for Sunday’s game is set for 3:30 pm ET at Fiserv Forum.
