Toronto Raptors’ Injury Report Against Orlando Magic cover image

The Raptors look to bounce back after a loss to the Knicks.

The Toronto Raptors will be in the national spotlight on Friday night as they look to get back into the win column. They’ll face the Orlando Magic on the road, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

The Raptors will still be without big man Jakob Poeltl (back), who hasn’t played since Dec. 21, via the NBA injury report. Magic forward Franz Wagner (ankle) will also miss the game. Additionally, two-way players A.J. Lawson, Chucky Hepburn, and Alijah Martin are on G League assignment for Toronto.

Poeltl is averaging 9.7 points on 69.3 percent shooting with 7.7 rebounds across 25.3 minutes, while Wagner is averaging 22.2 points on 48.2 percent (36.8 3-point) and 6.1 rebounds over 32.8 minutes. The latter player last played on Jan. 18.

Toronto enters Friday’s slate fourth place in the Eastern Conference at 29-20, tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Meanwhile, the New York Knicks are second and Boston Celtics are third, with both teams tied at 29-18.

A win in Orlando would at least keep the Raptors tied with the Knicks and Celtics in the win column. New York will host the Portland Trail Blazers while Boston will host the Sacramento Kings.

If the Knicks or Celtics lose either of those matchups, then a Raptors win would put them ahead in the win column. Luckily for Toronto, Orlando is 1-4 over its last five games, although it is coming off of a 131-24 win over the Miami Heat.

The Raptors are coming off a 119-92 home loss to the Knicks on Wednesday, which ended a four-game win streak. They shot just 38 percent from the field and 27 percent from deep in that game.

On the bright side for the Raptors, their top-five scorers are all available: Brandon Ingram (21.7 points per game), Scottie Barnes (19.4 PPG), RJ Barrett (18.8 PPG), Immanuel Quickley (16.9 PPG), and Sandro Mamukelashvili (11.1 PPG). Meanwhile, Wagner (22.2 PPG) is the Magic’s scoring leader followed by Paolo Banchero (21.9).

The latter player is primarily a threat going to the rim, as he’s shooting just 29.2 percent from deep this season. Additionally, Orlando ranks 28th in three-pointers made, so Toronto can defend the paint without having to worry about lethal shooters on the outside.

After the Magic game, the Raptors will play the Utah Jazz at home on Sunday before hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.
