The Raptors will have an opportunity to bounce back from a rough loss to Minnesota this evening against a familiar foe.
The Toronto Raptors will be without superstar Kawhi Leonard once again but they should have an opportunity to bounce back this evening against an Orlando Magic team that is further decimated.
The Raptors took a brutal loss to Minnesota on Sunday as the team saw just exactly what can happen if they aren't able to produce with Leonard sidelined. On the other hand, Orlando came away with a 111-102 win over the defending champion New York Knicks that same day.
Still, the Magic are down several of their key players including star Paolo Banchero who is slated to be out for multiple weeks with a high ankle sprain that he suffered last Friday against the Timberwolves, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Jonathan Isaac, Izaiyah Nelson, Noah Penda and Jalen Suggs won't be taking the court for Orlando either while guard Anthony Black is currently listed as questionable for personal reasons.
Other than Leonard, center Nate Bittle and two-way player Malachi Smith are the two other Raptors who will be sidelined for tonight's contest. For now, Bittle is week-to-week with a right foot avulsion fracture per CBS Sports.
Banchero and Suggs are by far the biggest losses for Orlando, which the Raptors could take advantage of. Prior to his injury, Banchero averaged 24.5 points, 7.5 assists and 6.5 rebounds per game. Suggs was a major force defensively, averaging two steals and 0.3 blocks before getting a mild bone bruise in his right knee on Sunday.
With that, Scottie Barnes could be in for a huge night after going scoreless against a suffocating Timberwolves defense. The 25-year-old had a 28-point performance in Toronto's win over Washington that also saw him collect 14 rebounds and two steals.
RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley are other Raptors to watch. The 26-year-old Barrett has been on fire this year, shooting 51% from the field and recently scoring 20 points against Minnesota. Quickley has averaged 18 points per game this season, exceeding last year's average of 16.4 so far.
The matchup between Jakob Poeltl and Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. is worth keeping an eye on as well. Even though the former had a poor showing on Sunday, his 7-foot stature could pose problems for the 6'10'' Carter Jr.
Poeltl played a role in limiting Washington's Anthony Davis to nine points on 3-for-12 shooting and forcing four turnovers off the 33-year-old last week.
While the Raptors clearly have the advantage in numbers and available talent, Orlando is known for being a very scrappy team that refuses to go down easily.
