The Toronto Raptors are looking to have a big season during the 2026-27 campaign. While their stars will lead the way -- including Kawhi Leonard if his trade does go through -- Toronto will need other players to step up as well. With Summer League over, the focus is now on the upcoming season. So, how will Jakob Poeltl perform during the upcoming campaign?

Poeltl, 30, was limited to only 46 games played this past season. The Raptors big man averaged 10.7 points per game while shooting 70 percent from the field. He added 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per outing.

It was an up and down season for Poeltl. He was able to contribute while on the floor, but the fact that he was limited was far from ideal for Poeltl and the Raptors. 

If Poeltl is able to stay on the floor, what should fans expect from him in 2026-27?

Poeltl has a proven track record in the NBA. He began his career with the Raptors before later spending time with the San Antonio Spurs. Poeltl returned to Toronto during the 2022-23 season, and he has played with the Raptors ever since. 

Centers are coming back in the NBA. There was a time not too long ago where the league was extremely guard-heavy when it comes to stars. Now, many of the better players in the league are big men. While Poeltl is not necessarily a star, he is an impactful player.

In 2024-25, he averaged 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game across 57 contests. The Raptors would love for him to turn in that kind of production once again.

The Raptors are building a true contender at the moment. It would not be surprising to see Poeltl have one of the better seasons of his career. 

Look for Poeltl to average right around 14 points per outing during the upcoming season. Additionally, his rebounds should increase as well. He should get closer to that 9.5 average after recording just seven boards per game last year. 

The Raptors are going to be cautious with him. However, the final prediction is that Poeltl plays in 55 or more games. If he can accomplish that and be ready for the postseason, the Raptors will be in a good position overall.
