The Houston Rockets are far from the team they were a year ago.
After starting 0-3, the team has won three straight games to creep back to .500, the first time Houston has been at that mark in two years.
With coach Ime Udoka running the ship and Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks acting as co-commanders on the floor, the Rockets are steering the ship in the right direction after years of veering wrong.
The potential the team has shown in the last three games after beating the Charlotte Hornets and sweeping the Sacramento Kings has catapulted the Rockets to No. 10 in CBS Sports' latest power rankings.
"And here come the Rockets, who beat the Hornets to start the week before consecutive home wins over the Kings, the last coming by a 25-point margin," CBS Sports writes. "The offense went berserk, averaging 123 points per 100 possessions this week with five players putting up at least 17 points per game. Dillon Brooks caught fire, which always helps, as he shot 66% from the field and 60% from 3-point range for the week."
It remains to be seen whether this is a flash in the pan or not, but the way the Rockets have won these games have proven that this could be sustainable. Sure, the Hornets are still rebuilding and the Kings were without De'Aaron Fox, but the Rockets as a team looked good in their wins.
This week, the Rockets host the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday before their In-Season Tournament debut against the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday. Then, the Rockets will face their biggest test yet when the defending champion Denver Nuggets come to town on Sunday.
