Potential opportunities as Houston places their star players on the trading block.
The Houston Rockets have presumably placed Kevin Durant and Alperen Şengün on the trade block. Although this doesn't mean they will get traded, it does mean that Houston's management will listen to offers for the players and accept them if they are a good fit for the team.
Houston did mention that although they are open for trades, their star Amen Thompson is "untouchable", meaning that they are unwilling to consider any trades for him. Amen Thompson is currently eligible for a contract extension, and there is speculation regarding a 5 year $250million contract.
Houston have had issues with their salary cap, but putting Durant and Şengün on the trade block could help with that, as they both hold huge contracts. Durant currently has a 3 year $144 million contract; Alperen Şengün has a 5 year $185 million contract.
Both players hold huge trade value, so if either player were to get traded it would have to be for a star player. Blockbuster trades are always exciting, and the Rockets might be next line in for one.
Houston just made multiple draft trades to get Bruce Thornton in the second round. The team traded in both of their draft picks in order to get him, which hints at two things: Raphael Stone is increasing their salary flexibility for potentials trades, and that he is focus on improving their offense.
The Rockets have an amazing defense, but their offense is often stagnant and lackluster. The team has one of the worst three point volume and efficiency in the NBA. They also mainly rely on isolation play, which doesn't allow for much creativity and fluidity. If either Şengün or Durant were to get traded, you would expect and hope that they do so for an all-star offensive player.
There are already multiple rumors going around, one of the biggest being Jalen Brown. His time with the Boston Celtics is coming to an end, and there are talks that his next destination could be Houston. Although it is still a rumor, the speculative idea of him leading the Rockets is very exciting and promising, and could be a perfect fit to bring success to the team.
There seems to be a lot of potential for exciting trades in Houston, is there a big blockbuster trade around the corner?
