Houston’s veteran floor general finally addresses lingering injury concerns in Las Vegas, sparking questions about his conditioning, rotation role, and potential minutes restriction heading into next season.

The Houston Rockets and their fans got some great news this past week at the Las Vegas Summer League. After speculation about Fred VanVleet’s health and future with the team ran rampant, as covered on Roundtable, we have a bit more clarity now.

He showed his support by stopping in to watch last Saturday’s game against the Toronto Raptors, and that’s when Vanessa Richardson got an opportunity to ask him a few questions for us:

Assuming we can take both him and Rafael Stone at their word, it appears the steady veteran point guard will be healthy to start the season. Definitely a breath of fresh air, as that’s the first update we’ve had in months.

There is still one thing to consider though. “Healthy” can mean a number of different things. He might feel healthy right now, and he might feel like he can get back on the court. He still has to listen to the experts, though.

As previously discussed on Roundtable, I’m curious how this injury recovery will impact his role on the team. What will the starting lineup look like? Will he play in back-to-backs?

Being healthy and cleared to play doesn’t automatically mean he’s ready to play upwards of 30 minutes a night. He still needs time to let his body recover.

Considering he hasn’t played in an NBA game since May of 2025, I don’t think bringing him off of the bench would be the craziest thing to consider. Either way, I’m just glad we finally got some good news.
