The Houston Rockets are officially back on track. On Wednesday night in Toronto, Houston earned their first road win of the season, taking down the Raptors 139-121, now 2-2.
From tipoff, Houston looked locked in. Josh Okogie stayed in the starting five and immediately brought defensive pressure, while Kevin Durant looked comfortable leading the offense. Jamari Smith Jr. came out hot, scoring all seven of the Rockets’ first points and hitting multiple threes to keep the early energy high. Tari Eason ended the first quarter with a half-court buzzer beater that gave Houston a 39-30 lead.
In the second quarter, Toronto fought to close the gap. Brandon Ingram went seven-for-seven with 18 points before halftime. The Raptors’ ball pressure started to clash with Houston’s rebounding dominance, and by mid-quarter the score was tied 50-50. The neck-and-neck run didn’t last.
Steven Adams grabbed key offensive rebounds and second-chance points racked up. By halftime, Houston led 70-63 and had already out-rebounded Toronto 27-9.
In the third quarter Toronto tried to build momentum, but Houston’s size continued to control the tempo of the game. Durant picked up steam, Okogie hit his first three, and the Rockets pushed their lead to 15 midway through the third. Ingram and Scottie Barnes tried to carry Toronto offensively, but they had no real answer for Houston’s ball movement or rebounding.
Toronto opened the fourth with a 7-0 run, forcing a Houston timeout. Eason answered with a steal and a one-handed dunk, and Durant followed with back-to-back threes. The Rockets recorded 17 offensive rebounds and forced 14 turnovers from Toronto, while committing just nine of their own.
Durant led Houston with 31 points, while Jamari Smith Jr. added 23 and Eason finished with 18, continuing to show he’s a true playmaker on both ends. Ingram led Toronto with 29 points, hitting five threes and carrying them on the board.
The Rockets’ defense looked organized and physical all night, and the offense clicked from nearly every spot on the floor. Their bench depth stood out again, and coach Ime Udoka’s rotations kept the pace where Houston wanted it.
For a team that started the week 0-2, this one felt like another statement win- this time, on the road, with energy, rhythm, and chemistry falling into place. Early doubters are sure to be soothed with this two-win run.
