Is Kevin Durant Telling His Followers That He Is Moving to Detroit?

Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant is probably the most talked about trade rumor in recent weeks. The most popular of which, have him being traded to the rising Detroit Pistons. Amidst these continuous speculations and on-going rumors, Kevin Durant made a bold move by posting a picture of himself wearing a Detroit cap on his Instagram page.

I can only come to the conclusion that he made this post with the intention of attracting attention to himself, since the talks of him moving to Detroit are still in the rumor-phase and no truth has been established.

Regardless of whether he stays in Houston or moves to Detroit, his post is unnecessary, unprofessional and uncharismatic. Durant must know that these rumors are circulating about him, and he knows that all of the people that view his post of him wearing the Detroit cap, will make assumptions that he is insinuating that he will be traded to Detroit.

I find this almost disrespectful to both organizations and fans, because if he does stay in Houston, he will have posted the picture for his own ego and attention-gaining mindset. The photo creates doubt about his loyalty to Houston. Posting this is a sign that he prioritizes gaining followers and creating drama and attention above fidelity to his teammates and to Houston.

If he actually does get traded to the Detroit Pistons, the post will be equally disrespectful as it neglects confidentiality. In his departure, the most respectful thing to do would be to showing respect and gratitude to the organization, franchise, and teammates.

Whether Durant will be leaving or staying in Houston is currently not clear, and all of the talks are just rumors. His post does not change the fact that the talks are still just rumors, so creating expectations based on the post seems unnecessary if not insignificant.

Trade rumors will always be circulating, but hopefully we will find out whether Durant will be staying in Houston sooner rather than later, so that the Rockets' management can focus on building towards success. The expectations are so high for this talented roster, and controversy is likely to be a deterrent to success instead of a catalyst for it.

The best thing for Houston right now is to be straightforward and take the next steps in building a competitive franchise, whether that be with or without the all star Kevin Durant.
