The 26 year-old Congolese free agent, Oscar Tshiebwe, was signed on July 24 by the Houston Rockets. The young center holds a lot of promise, which is evident by being named the consensus national player of the year back in 2022 when he played for the Kentucky Wildcats.
Although he was efficient in college, he has not been able to replicate his performances in the NBA. In the most recent season, he played for the Utah Jazz. Because of injuries to their roster, Thiesbwe had the opportunity to play 27 games. In those games, he averaged 16.6 minutes, contributing an average of 7.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.
However, his G League numbers have been impressive, as he averages 17.3 rebounds and 15.4 points. His physical prowess on both ends of the court might make him a better fit to play in Houston under Ime Udoka, but the promising center will have to re-establish himself and earn himself a role on the team.
Tshiebwe will have to prove that he can do more than score in the paint and rebound, but if he does, he has the potential to play a significant role off the bench for Houston.
Will Tshiebwe put up a competition for the 14th roster spot in Houston?
