After a blowout loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the San Antonio Spurs will look to get back on track on Monday night. They will continue their road trip, traveling south from Ohio to take on the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Spurs beat the Pelicans by four in the second game of the season. Victor Wembanyama led the way with a 29-point double-double for the Spurs, and Zion Williamson posted 27 points for the Pelicans. At that point, the season was promising for both teams. Since then, they have trodden different paths.
Neither Williamson nor Wembanyama will suit up for their teams tonight, and the Spurs are heavy favorites as they try to return to their winning ways.
Before tipoff, we have you covered with everything you need to know, from betting odds, TV info, and injury reports for both squads.
In their last loss, the Spurs were without both Wembanyama and Kornet, who was listed as questionable for that contest as well. Without Kornet, they get an added offensive boost with Kelly Olynyk, although the Spurs don't really need added scoring.
Between De'Aaron Fox, Devin Vassell, and Harrison Barnes, the Spurs have enough scorting and spoacing. While Olynyk's prowess as a backup is appreciated, he doesn't fit in well with the starting lineup. If he's the anchor in the paint, expect Derik Queen to have a stand-out game.
Between Miami's Kel'el Ware and Dallas' Dereck Lively II, the Spurs have trouble containing young centers. With Kornet and Wemby both listed on the injury report, expect Queen and Yves Missi to join that company.
Of course, the Spurs are more talented and well-rounded than the Pelicans, so even with one weakness, expect an easy win. Anything other than that would be disappointing.
After this game, the Spurs will head west to take on the Los Angeles Lakers in an NBA Cup knockout game, the first in franchise history.
