The San Antonio Spurs, led by Victor Wembanyama, improved to 2-0 with a hard-fought win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Entering the 2025-26 NBA season, there were a lot of high hopes surrounding the San Antonio Spurs. With Victor Wembanyama back at full health, some playoff hype had started to rise up around the franchise.

Through the first two games of the year, the Spurs have made those predictions look smart.

Against the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night, San Antonio improved to 2-0 with a hard-fought 120-116 win in overtime. Once again, Wembanyama dominated to lead the Spurs to victory.

In the first game of the season, a win over the Dallas Mavericks, Wembanyama scored 40 points to go along with 15 rebounds and three blocks. He shot 15-for-21 in that game and made nine of his 11 free throws.

Against the Pelicans, Wembanyama did not perform much worse. He scored 29 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and recorded nine blocks, while shooting 13 for 23 from the floor.

On the other side of the court, New Orleans saw Williamson come through with a big-time performance. Williams put up 27 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.

At least through the first two games, San Antonio looks the part of a playoff team. Assuming Wembanyama can stay healthy and keep playing up to his potential, the sky is the limit for the Spurs.

Wembanyama did foul out of the game, but that did not spoil his dominance.

Outside of the superstar center, San Antonio saw Devin Vassell score 23 points, while Stephon Castle had 16 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Luke Kornet came off the bench for 14 points and 12 rebounds and rookie point guard Dylan Harper scored 13 points.

So far, the Spurs have looked great as a team. Wembanyama has been dominant but his supporting cast has played up to expectations as well.

Next up for San Antonio will be a home matchup against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday afternoon. The Spurs will have a chance to start off the season with a 3-0 record. After that, they will take on the Toronto Raptors at home on Monday in the second game of a back-to-back.

There is a lot of season left to be played, but so far there is a lot to be excited about in San Antonio.
