San Antonio racked up another NBA regular season award, as Keldon Johnson was named the Sixth Man of the Year.
NBA Awards season has been good to San Antonio, as the Spurs picked up another accolade Wednesday, thanks to Keldon Johnson.
Johnson was recognized as the NBA Sixth Man of the Year after a sensational season for the Spurs. He beat out Jaime Jacquez Jr. of the Miami Heat and Tim Hardaway Jr. from Denver to earn the award.
The seventh-year forward appeared in all 82 for the team this season, where he came off the bench in all of them, and was a force in creating depth for the Western Conference's No. 2 seed.
He finished the regular season with an average of 13.2 points in only around 23 minutes of action per game. This included going for over 50 percent from the floor and close to 36 percent from 3-point range.
Outside of scoring, Johnson posted an average of 5.4 rebounds a game, including the highest offensive rebounding average of his career at nearly 2 per outing.
Johnson eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for the fourth time in his career at 1,081 total points, and it was the first time he reached the milestone while not being a primary starter for San Antonio.
Following Victor Wembanyama's unanimous Defensive Player of the Year title on Monday, San Antonio is now home to two of the league's award winners. And there's still room for more, as Wemby is a finalist for the NBA Most Valuable Player Award.
Speaking of Wembanyama, the Spurs will rely heavily on their Sixth Player of the Year on the court, with Wembanyama in the concussion protocol after a nasty fall in Tuesday's Game 2 in their series against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Johnson may see his duties increase but if his performance throughout the regular season, he is more than able to step up when San Antonio needs him most.
San Antonio and Johnson head west to Portland for Game 3 of the series on Friday, with tip-off from the Moda Center coming at 9:30 p.m.
