San Antonio’s phenom dominates both ends of the floor, securing NBA 2K27 cover honors, and further cementing himself as one of the most influential players in the league.

Victor Wembanyama's rise to NBA superstardom has been one of the league's biggest storylines over the past three seasons, and it means that he is one of the new faces of the NBA.

In its latest "Face of the League" rankings, CBS Sports placed Wembanyama at No. 2, trailing only LeBron James. The ranking reflects not only Wembanyama's dominance on the court, but also his growing influence around the NBA as one of the sport's brightest young stars.

"Wembanyama won't turn 23 until January. That's a terrifying prospect for the rest of the league, given what he's already accomplished... There's nothing he can't do on the court," John Gonzales writes. "Wemby isn't just next, he's right now. There's only one man left who can prevent him from having the spotlight all to himself."

Considering everything Wembanyama accomplished during the 2025-26 season, it's easy to understand why he's climbed so high.

The 22-year-old led the Spurs to the NBA Finals, captured his first NBA Defensive Player of the Year award, and firmly established himself as one of, if not the game's best two-way player. He also finished among the finalists for the league's Most Valuable Player award, further cementing his status as one of basketball's premier talents.

Perhaps the only reason Wembanyama didn't claim the top spot is the player ahead of him. Even at 41 years old, LeBron James continues to command enormous attention around the NBA. His blockbuster free-agency decision dominated headlines throughout July, showing that no player currently generates more conversation than the future Hall of Famer.

Since arriving in San Antonio as the No. 1 overall pick in 2023, he has exceeded virtually every expectation. His combination of elite defense, offensive versatility, and unique skill set has made him one of the NBA's biggest attractions whenever the Spurs take the floor.

His popularity also extends well beyond game nights. Wembanyama was recently announced as the cover athlete for NBA 2K27's standard edition, another indication that his profile continues to grow on a global scale. Between endorsement opportunities, international appeal, and his success on the court, he has become one of the league's most marketable players.

If the Spurs continue building on last season's run to the NBA Finals, Wembanyama could soon have a strong argument for the top spot.

Especially after LeBron hangs it up after his monumental career.

Winning championships has always been the fastest way to become the face of the league, and San Antonio appears to have the roster capable of competing for one.

For now, being ranked No. 2 is another reminder that Wembanyama's ascent is far from complete. But if his trajectory continues, it may only be a matter of time before the Spurs superstar becomes the NBA's unquestioned face of the NBA.
