J. Cole praised San Antonio and its NBA team during a sold-out Fall-Off Tour stop at Frost Bank Center, home of the Spurs.
Roughly 19,000 people filled Frost Bank Center on Sunday night for J. Cole, according to MySA. The Sept. 13 show was a sellout and a stop on The Fall-Off Tour, held in the building the San Antonio Spurs call home.
From the stage, Cole talked about San Antonio's culture and its NBA team, MySA reported. He called San Antonio a "great American city" in a TikTok video from the show that has since gone viral. He also said it is a city people learn about in history books.
Cole walked the arena floor during the concert. In video posted to Facebook, he moves through the crowd and slaps hands with fans on both sides.
J. Cole Brings The Fall-Off Tour to San Antonio
The Fall-Off came out Feb. 6. It is Cole's seventh studio album and opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Ten days after the release, on Feb. 16, he announced the tour.
Charlotte got the first show, on July 11 at Spectrum Center. After North America, the tour goes to Europe, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand, with the final date Dec. 12 at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. It is Cole's first solo headlining tour since The Off-Season Tour in 2021.
His Texas dates also include Houston on Sept. 16 and Dallas on Sept. 19.
Cole's last tour stop in San Antonio came on Aug. 17, 2018, on the KOD Tour with Young Thug.
He has also played professional basketball. In 2021, Cole appeared in three games for Rwanda's Patriots BBC in the Basketball Africa League. He averaged 1.7 points and 1.7 rebounds in a little more than 15 minutes per game.
A year later, the Canadian Elite Basketball League's Scarborough Shooting Stars signed Cole, whose legal name is Jermaine Lamarr Cole, as a 6-foot-3 guard.
Frost Bank Center Has Been Spurs' Home Since 2002
Bexar County paid for the arena with county-issued bonds backed by increases in hotel occupancy and car-rental taxes. It opened in October 2002 as the SBC Center. The AT&T Center name went up in 2006 and came down in 2023.
For basketball, the building seats 18,418. Concerts can go to 19,000.
San Antonio reached the NBA Finals last season and hosted games there before losing to the New York Knicks in five games.
Spurs Plan Move to New Downtown Arena
The team plans to leave the East Side arena for a new building downtown. In August 2025, the San Antonio City Council voted 7-4 to approve the framework for a $489 million city contribution to the arena. The arena would sit on the former site of the Institute of Texan Cultures.
Bexar County voters approved Proposition B on Nov. 4, 2025, with 52.1% of the vote. The measure raised the county hotel occupancy tax to fund the county's $311 million share of the arena, which has been projected at $1.3 billion.
In July, Texas Public Radio and the San Antonio Report hosted a business forum. On stage, Silver Ventures CEO Bryant Ambelang referred to the downtown district as Project Marvel, and Spurs Sports & Entertainment CEO R.C. Buford interrupted him.
"We don't say that anymore," Buford said, as reported by Texas Public Radio.
Buford said the organization had not settled on a new name.
The city said in June that it was nearing a deal to acquire the Institute of Texan Cultures property.
