The San Antonio Spurs lost the NBA Finals in five games to the New York Knicks, and Karl-Anthony Towns had a secret weapon to slow down Victor Wembanyama.
Heading into the 2026 NBA Finals, the San Antonio Spurs were heavy favorites over the New York Knicks. Apparently, Jalen Brunson and Company didn't check the odds, because they beat the Spurs in just five games.
In the Finals, Victor Wembanyama was one of the better players on the court, although he wasn't his usual dominating self. He averaged 26 points and 11.2 rebounds, but had to fight pretty much every time he touched the ball.
In the regular season, Knicks' center Mitchell Robinson made life tough for Wembanyama, although in the finals, it was Karl-Anthony Towns who helped slow down the Frenchman.

Anthony Edwards Stepped Up for Knicks
In 2024, the Knicks traded Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Towns. In the Conference Semifinals, the Spurs beat the Wolves, and Anthony Edwards wanted to share some lessons.
Apparently, he and Towns are still friends, even after the trade.
"I was talking to him before every game because we played San Antonio," Edwards said at Fanatics Fest. "So just, you know, give him the little tips and stuff on which players like to go which way and, you know, stuff about Wemby."
Towns did rack up plenty of fouls in the Finals, but still managed to snag 10.6 rebounds per game, space the floor, and score down low. He brought some physicality and intensity to the floor for the Knicks, helping push them over the top.
"I gave a little cheat code, and he passed the test," Edwards added. "So shout out KAT."
Edwards is one of the best young players in the NBA. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander already has a ring, but Edwards clearly wants to be the second of his new generation to win a title. That means slowing down Wembanyama, Luka Doncic, and anyone else under 27 years old until he gets his first ring.
