The Spurs continued to roll with back-to-back wins over the Clippers and Kings in a short road trip to California this week.
Monday's win over a resurgent Los Angeles squad took everything San Antonio had in the tank. After jumping out to a 21-point lead in the third quarter, the Clippers stormed back and cut their deficit to four before the Spurs escaped with the victory 119-115.
Victor Wembanyama notched his eighth (8) 20-point performance in his last nine appearances, as he went for 21 alongside 13 rebounds.
However, he wasn't the star for San Antonio, as Stephon Castle exploded for a team-high 23 points. Despite the high total, he struggled from deep, hitting only one of his four three-point attempts.
However, San Antonio was rewarded with an easier outing the following night in Sacramento. Against a Kings team that amounted to a 18-51 record entering the game, the Spurs dominated all-night long en route to a 132-104 win.
Wembanyama closed as the team's co-leading scorer once again but didn't have to be super-human in an 18-point, eight-rebound effort.
Keldon Johnson matched Wembanyama's total in a strong outing off the bench. Four of San Antonio's five starters finished in double figures, with Stephon Castle being held to only three points after his monster effort versus L.A.
Fresh off a season-high 41-point outing against the Jazz, the Spurs shut down Kings guard DeMar DeRozan. He was held to only two points in 17 minutes of action.
While DeRozan cooled off, Maxime Raynaud heated up with 32 points on the night. However, San Antonio's defense suffocated nearly every other Sacramento scorer to render his stellar night futile.
San Antonio heads back home after the short stint out west to take on the Phoenix Suns. The Spurs have won five of their last six games, but their last loss was to a potential playoff contender in the Denver Nuggets.
The Suns fit this profile, currently boasting a 39-30 record and hold the 7-seed in the Western Conference. Phoenix has also beaten the Spurs in two of their three meetings this season, but both of those wins came in the Arizona desert.
The Spurs aim to not only continue to claim the title of the NBA's hottest team but strive to be the league's most consistent heading into their first postseason trip in over five seasons.
Standing in their way is a Suns team who has shown its ability to hang with San Antonio. If the Spurs can pick up another win on Thursday, it will go a long way in highlighting the growth this squad has made all-season long.
