The San Antonio Spurs and Taelon Peter have agreed to a deal, league sources told HoopsHype's Michael Scotto. Peter will go to training camp with San Antonio.
Indiana waived the 24-year-old guard on July 20, according to the NBA's log of official transactions. Scotto first reported the Pacers' plan to move on from Peter, who was on a two-way contract at the time.
Peter appeared in 38 games as a rookie last season and averaged 4.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 12.9 minutes. He shot 38.0% from the field, 32.8% from 3-point range, and 62.5% at the free throw line.
The Pacers took Peter with the 54th overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft and signed him to a two-year, two-way contract that July. The deal carried an $85,300 partial guarantee in the first year, and a $75,000 guarantee for 2026-27 would have taken hold had he remained under contract past Aug. 1. Indiana waived him 12 days before that date.
Across 20 games with the Noblesville Boom, Indiana's G League affiliate, Peter averaged 14.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 32.5 minutes per game. He added 1.5 steals a night and shot 41.5% from the field and 36.3% from 3-point range.
Peter started all five games for Indiana's entry at the 2026 Las Vegas Summer League last month. He averaged 10.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 24.3 minutes, shot 50.0% from the field and 35.7% from 3-point range, and turned the ball over 2.2 times per game.
Before the 2025 draft, Peter worked out for seven teams, including San Antonio. He also worked out for Boston, Houston, Milwaukee, Brooklyn, Charlotte, and Indiana. Tom Crean said on an ESPN telecast during the 2025 Summer League that Detroit, San Antonio, and Milwaukee had interest in Peter ahead of the draft, and that Peter went 9-of-12 from 3-point range during half-court live action at his Pacers workout.
Peter spent one season at Liberty after three years at Arkansas Tech and one at Tennessee Tech. He averaged 13.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in 22.7 minutes for the Flames in 2024-25 while starting two of 35 games, and he shot 57.8% from the field and 45.3% from 3-point range. Conference USA named him its Sixth Man of the Year that season. He was the highest draft pick in Liberty program history and the first Flames player selected since Cliff Webber went in the fourth round to Boston in 1985.
San Antonio carries 14 players on standard contracts and three on two-way deals. Ja'Kobi Gillespie and Maliq Brown, the 42nd and 44th picks of the 2026 draft, signed two-way contracts in July. David Jones-Garcia agreed to another two-way deal later that month, and San Antonio waived Emanuel Miller to open the spot.
The Spurs are hard-capped at the first apron after signing Tobias Harris with the non-taxpayer mid-level exception. Harrison Barnes returned on a one-year, $8 million deal. Victor Wembanyama signed a five-year, $252.3 million rookie scale extension in July.
San Antonio lost the 2026 NBA Finals to the New York Knicks in five games. Spurs coach Mitch Johnson enters his second season as the full-time head coach. Austin remains the organization's G League affiliate, and one standard roster spot is still open.
