Through two preseason games, Dylan Harper looks like the best player on the San Antonio Spurs, and he's not going to go quietly back to the bench.

If your first exposure to the San Antonio Spurs was their first two preseason games of this season, you wouldn't be wrong for thinking that Dylan Harper is the best player on the roster.

In both games, he started and led the Spurs with 16 and 15 points, respectively. He's shooting four-of-six from 3-point range, pulls the trigger with confidence, and can get to the rim like prime Kobe Bryant.

Of course, anyone who's ever watched the team knows that Victor Wembanyama is the best player in San Antonio, if not the entire NBA. However, as De'Aaron Fox misses games with "soreness," Harper has easily shown that he's capable of being an elite starting point guard. The Spurs can't ignore that.

Dylan Harper Has Stolen the Starting Job

Preseason is ripe for overreaction, and every success and shortcoming has to be taken with a grain of salt. However, as Harper continues to shine and Fox continues to miss games, one fact is simple: Harper is already the second-best player on the roster.

Some fans are taking things even a step further, bordering on the ridiculous, although the sentiment is understood:

Heading into the season, the biggest concern surrounding Harper was his 3-point shooting. Well, he's at 66.6 percent through two games and shot 46.8 percent in the final 30 games of last season. At this point, he should only ever return to the bench if he proves those numbers were a fluke.

The Spurs should be operating under the assumption that Harper's shot has arrived, and he's one of the most talented offensive players in the entire league. His defense isn't bad, either.

After Fox's disastrous NBA Finals, the Spurs hammered home that they still believe in him and want him to play a big role long-term. Two things can be true: the Spurs can think Fox is a very talented player, and they can also understand that Harper is more talented.

The onus was on Harper to prove that he's a better, more complete player than Fox. He's done that. Now the pressure is on Fox to prove that the Spurs are better with him in the lineup. He should be given ample chances to do just that, but for now, the Spurs should give the keys to the guy who's better. It's really that simple.
